I have set up this as a place-holder for general FAQ's about the UK service. Please feel free to ask any questions & I will try to update the FAQ. It would be great if @FreedomPop @Ali @Jorge M. could take a look and supply some answers.

Q) Where can I order a Sim/Join the Alpha test?
A) Visit http://uk.freedompop.com and click 'Check availability now'. If you are feeling generous, you can sign up using my referral link http://fpop.co/g6Ty.

Q) How much does it cost to join?
A) The sim-card comes with a one-off charge of £5 + £1.99 P&P.

Q) Where can I get the FreedomPopUK app?
A) Android -
FreedomPop Messenger: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freedompop.phone&hl=en/
My FreedomPop: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freedomPop
FreedomPop Diagnostic app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freedompop.fpdiagnostics
FreedomPop Visual Voicemail: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freedompop.vvm

iOS - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/freedompop-free-voice-text/id835399970?ls=1&mt=8

Q) What handset's are supported?
A) We know that the app works on iOS & Android, but details about supported handsets are currently unavailable.
UK - List of Phones and Mobile Broadband Devices (supported and unsupported)
https://forums.freedompop.com/discussion/12813/uk-list-of-phones-and-mobile-broadband-devices-supported-and-unsupported#latest

Q) Can I make calls or send SMS when I have no data connection?
A) With FreedomPop Premium Voice activated (Included free with Premium 1000 & Premium 2000 or £1.99 a month for Basic 200 users), you can use the 3 Mobile network to make calls when the data connection is poor or unavailable. SMS will be unavailable

Q) Can I receive calls or SMS when I have no data connection?
A) At the moment, a data connection is required to receive calls or SMS. If the phone has no data, the caller will just hear a ringing on there end (or Voicemail if you have it active). Once you are in a data area you will be notified about the missed call or the SMS will be delivered.

Q) Can I send or receive MMS?
A) We currently only support MMS or group messaging from FreedomPop-to-FreedomPop user. We hope to add support for Multimedia Messaging Service to other carriers in a future release.

Q) Can I port my number to FreedomPop?
A) This will be coming soon. As the service is in Alpha stage, number porting will most likely be available after full launch.

Q) What price plans are available?
At FreedomPop, we believe that access to free internet is a right, not a privilege. All FreedomPop users will have access to free calls, data, and text messaging. While we do offer a completely FREE plan, we also do offer paid plans for users that want more.

Basic 200

Text: 200 Messages
Data Limit: 200 MB
Price: £0.00/month

Premium 500

Q) How do I change from a paid plan to the free plan?
Thank you @Fabyon for this tip:

Go to your dashboard > my account > plans
Once there you'll see your current plan ( the one that shows first ) under the name of your plan there's a clickable link called ' details and plan management ' click on it.
Once there just look for the link ' downgrade ' you'll be able to downgrade to the basic 200 follow all the prompts as you'll probably need to confirm twice that you want to downgrade.

Q) What are the charges once i have used up all my Calls/SMS?
A) Once you have reached the limit, you will be suspended from making any more calls / sending any more sms until the next billing cycle.
As per the Fair Usage Policy : section Minute fair usage [http://uk.freedompop.com/fair_usage_policy.htm]
" Once the minutes included in your Monthly Plan have been used, you may not use additional minutes for the balance of the month. "

Q) What are the charges once i have used up all my data?
Exta data is charged at 1p per mb for Premium customers & 1.5p per mb for Basic customers

Q) How do I contact FreedomPop?
A) FreedomPop UK customer service & sales are available on 01138 870 823 (Calls are charged in accordance with your Monthly Plan if you call through FreedomPop and otherwise at UK national charges) or visit http://support.uk.freedompop.com or http://uk.freedompop.com/contact.htm to submit a ticket.

Q) How can I earn free data?
A) FreedomPop friend invites in UK attract 10MB per friend, max of 20 friends and 200 MB - this is reoccurring and you will get that amount each month.

There is a notification error - if US friends accept your invite notification says 50MB will be awarded but you will only get 10MB

For the last Q no charge as they just stop, once you used your allowance of calls and sms you can't do anymore until the next billing cycle starts.

As per their Ts&Cs Fair Usage Policy : section Minute fair usage
" Once the minutes included in your Monthly Plan have been used, you may not use additional minutes for the balance of the month. "

Chris I would add in the Unlimited Minutes and Messages section of the £11.99 plan:

(2500 minutes FUP) and (5000 texts FUP)

FUP being Fair Usage Policy :D

Cost of the activation fee is £5 but add £1.99 postage & packing, it reflects better the initial outlay.

I have the feeling that premium voice is only for outgoing phone calls through the 3 network when the data signal is weak or lacking but NOT SMS.

I don't think the texting is true sms, its just instant messaging to a phone number.
Billing cycle starts ~ 1st of month

I think you're exactly right as SMS are coded to be sent through a mobile phone signal, the app make sure it can get sent to normal sims to other operators though coding/decoding the SMS (it's probably quicker freedompop to freedompop), basically it's a FBmessenger/Whatsapp app with VOIP tacked to it, the only difference with freedompop from the other two apps mentioned is that they supply you with the connection to mobile data as opposed to having another operator and extra costs.

It's the equivalent of Vonage (Landline VoIP operator) giving you a landline connection but you can't use it for calls only for internet, basically 'pure adsl' which BT never agreed to ( they say there was never any demand for it, yeah right lol ) because line rental is their cash cow.

Correct. Texting isn't true SMS, but what does that matter. It's actually better than SMS. There is no 160 character limit. The only limitation I have found is that it doesn't cope with graphical emojis very well. When I sent one, the message was chopped in half (only the last half arrived) and the first couple of letters were corrupted. On the other hand, I sent a text only message of about 500 characters, and it only counted as a single text. Super!

That's great news about counting as only one text but the person at the receiving end received three texts though ? Just curious :)

The person getting the SMS will get 3 messages, but if they have android or iOS, then the message should arrive as one long message.

Truncated sms also works on Nokia series 40, Asha, Symbian and Windows Phone :)

I'm guessing Blackberry as well but can't test that ;)

Also add that freedompop SIM needs to go in Slot 1. Any Problems with activation do this unistall freedompop messenager and reinstall after placing the SIM back in.

@Ali can we have this FAQ post added as an announcement or something so it always appears at the top of the page - that way people are informed and it will reduce repeated questions on the same topics

Why can't I use my remaining allowance of phone calls and texts ? Because you've reached your data limit and you have disabled autotopup causing Freedompop not being able to top up by £5 to allow you pay as you go data which will stop your account being suspended, that's why you can't use your remaining allowances of calls and texts (Christ you can reword that better than I did, please, I'm tired tonight and English is my third language after all LOL)

Also remove the non freedompop sim in slot 2 until everything is hunky-dory then place it back to see if it works.

I have an old GPRS (G2) phone that has Edge on it, will it work with Freedompop ?

Unfortunately it won't work as the phone needs to be 3G compatible and able to run either iOS or Android to install the Freedompop messing app without which calls and texts can't be made.
