How to move apps and files to external SD card?

usnysmileusnysmile Posts: 13FreedomPop Newbie
My Optiums F3 phone showed internal memory is full. I cannot install and update any apps. I installed a SD card. How can I move the apps and photos to SD card? Thank you.

hey @usnysmile in order to move storage to your SD card you can go to settings>Apps> then click on an app> then there should be a button that says "Move to SD card" then you want to click that
and if your device goes on Android 4.4.2 then you can also go to settings>Storage> then scroll all the way down then click primary storage and click SD card rather than phone

The later versions of the android OS placed restrictions on the use of external SD cards & the LG Optimus F3 is affected by this.

You may be able to free up some space in the internal memory, by configuring apps to access/store data on the external SD card - however, not all apps can do this (typically, they don't see the external SD card, so you can't tell them to use it).

Unfortunately, you won't be able to move apps to the external SD card, without employing some tweaks/3rd party apps, both of which will probably require root.

I ended up using the Link2SD app method mentioned in this comment with my own Optimus F3 & external 32Gb SD card:

If your F3 was supplied by Freedompop, then it is probably already rooted (mine came that way) - you can check using one of the root checker apps from the play store. Needless to say, if it is rooted - proceed with the due care & attention that root deserves.
