**UPDATE** - WiMAX has been shut down.

Sprint is in the process of implementing major improvements to the Sprint 4G LTE network. As part of this process, Sprint will cease operating the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) network on November 6, 2015.

What this means to you

Sprint will no longer support Sprint 4G WiMAX devices and services. Your WiMAX devices will no longer connect to a wireless network and the terms and provisions of your contract related solely to 4G WiMAX devices, products and services will no longer be applicable. You will not be allowed to return devices.

Provided below are list of 4G WiMAX devices that will cease to operate:

Freedom Spot Photon
Freedom Spot Photon Platinum Edition
Freedom Stick Bolt
Freedom Hub Burst
Freedom Hub Burst Black Edition

If you have one of the following devices that operate on the 4G WiMAX/3G network; they will cease to operate on the 4G network. As a result you will receive 3G service only:

Freedom Spot MiFi 4082
Freedom Spot Overdrive
Freedom Spot Overdrive Pro
Freedom Stick 250U
Freedom Stick u600/u602
Freedom Stick u301
HTC EVO 4G
HTC EVO Design
Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch

If you have one of the above Wi-Fi Hotspots or USB Wireless Adaptor that support 3G service only after; November 6th, you will no longer have the option to remain on a free plan. If you have a mobile phone, you will receive 3G only for free.

Please be advised that all devices listed were sold by FreedomPop. If you have a WiMAX supported phone through our BYOD program, that feature will no longer be available.

To continue to meet your wireless data needs, we have a selection of comparable devices using 4G LTE technologies which are not impacted by the shutdown of Sprint 4G (WiMAX) network. We understand your concern and appreciate your patience during this unfortunate situation.

If you have immediate questions, please contact a WiMAX Transition Specialist at (888) 743-8107 9am-5pm PST to find out the options available to you. We look forward to continuing to meet your wireless data needs and to bring you exciting new services. Please press “1” on the option menu.”

@ali in another thread someone mentioned ordering a 6100D from a posted link and it worked even though they a stick or hotspot rather than a HubBurst to upgrade from. Is it appropriate to post that link here ? I haven't found it, yet.

Rich, There were a number of people posting links on the previous discussion. But I think it was probably mine that hits closest to this. I have a FreedomPop "Freedom Hub Burst" and was being offered either a "Netgear Mingle LTE Hotspot" or a "Netgear LTE Gateway 6100D" for a "One-Time Upgrade" price of $39.99. I posted the link for each of the 2 offers. I found out later that the offer was not applicable to every FreedomPop user. I regret posting the links now. I won't repeat them now.

But I ordered the 6100D right away on October 16th! The day I got the offer. It is supposed to arrive within 10 days of that date. So I should have it NOW! But I do NOT! It is still in the 2nd step of the delivery process where it has been stuck for 11 days. I think I may have been forgotten. Phil~ :'(

Will the $3.99 3G 500 my plan work on u250? That doesn't seem to be a bad option, especially if you make 10 good friends (500 mb) and receive 500 mb of data (1.5 gb for $3.99)

Thank you for posting the link, D 2C. I currently get 10 GB with my HubBurst. Will that be switched over to my new Mingle or will I have to upgrade the Mingle account?

I too have the Hub Burst and a 10 GB "Faster 3X" plan for $17.99/mo. Without keeping that plan I can NOT afford to go to the equivalent new plans that some have seen and posted. A 10 GB plan will rise to $74.99/mo! Why the HUGE raise in rates? That is all just rumor right now, but many seem sure it is going to happen. Why all of the secrecy FreedomPop? Tell it straight for both plans and equipment, so we can just get in or get out?

Does anyone know if I can buy this without losing my rollover accumulated data? I currently have the 500MB free plan with the $3.99 rollover. I've accumulated 7.45GB of data.

    I see this includes a Premier Bundle ($24.99 every 3 months) which I DON'T want. Here's what I hope won't happen:
    • Add Premier Bundle when buying the unit
    • Remove it immediately
    • Lose accumulated data
Anyone know for certain if my fears are not founded?

    @cdevidal
    Buy Mingle
    Get Mingle
Check out Mingle, be satisifed with functions.
    Downgrade Premium Bundle
Switch devices & rollover goes with the switch to new device
Old device gets new settings: nothing!
    Downgrade, deactivate, etc. if desired.
Have admin purge old item of above isn't good enough.
Enjoy your rollover to continue with existing services ( & maybe old data plan prices ? [doubtful].

@Philip Dehnert The pricing of data for Hot Spots has always been WAY higher than the hub pricing. The only device I have seen mentioned is the Netgear 6100D, It 'may' have the hub pricing but no-one has verified that, yet. It needs AC power not a battery charger, is not portable. So, potentially, maybe.....

I think netgear 6100d is replacement for the hub burst.

have two accounts (from forever ago),
freedom stick on one - just upgraded to mingle today.
    hub burst on the other.

The hub burst account got an email to upgrade to the Mingle. I need a gateway as two of my security cameras (which is all I use this for) have to be hard wired.

how do I get that one? (I'm asking because I'm assuming there's a way other than just using the link posted in the other thread)

Also, any way to merge the two accounts? Neither are paid plans..

    Keep them separate.
If the 6100D is hub replacement and has hub plan pricing, it will be worth waiting for. I think it came with 1,000 free. HotSpots like Mingle will be 500 free. Of course it should include 500 more free with 10 firends.

Can you get 10 friends with the hub and have 1,500 MB free ? That alone would make the 6100D worth getting. Its photo looks like a wireless access point device. It has the two 3" antennas from back lights on front. These things generally have 4 Cat5 LAN ports in back. Suitable for your two cameras to pluginto.

I plan when someone posts a link to the 6100D FP offer, I will log OUT of my freedompop account. Then click the link. If I can get it with a new (to freedompop) email account, GREAT! Otherwise it may insist that that is an upgrade offering only and you must log in first. OK, then I'll login with the hub burst acount (or what ever account I want to upgrade from). Then place the order. I have heard it was offered to a few for $40 with ship. I am waiting for $30 and hope to see it before the end of the year. Don't be in such a rush. Because two weeks after placing order. BAM on forehead! I coulda had a V8, NO wait I mean a 6100D for much nicer price. Then of course because of that pricing it will be in back-order for a VERY long time. Kitting will take FOREVER. Maybe I'll have it up and running before St. Patrick’s day.

I had thought I'd try out FreedomPop with my BYOD Samsung Galaxy S2. (I'm also a RingPlus customer, and haven't personally had problems with their customer service, but have heard lots of complaints from others about how swamped the R+ support staff is with all the new promo customers -- which leaves their forums (largely unmoderated, and plagued by a troll) as their main source of customer support.) After signing up for FreedomPop, however, I felt so stupid when I learned that my Galaxy S2 might no longer work on FP after Sprint stops supporting 4G Wimax next week. (Maybe for a few weeks with the 1 free month of Premium Voice for new FP customers, but that's it.)

It sounds like FP is strongly encouraging its customers to upgrade to 4G LTE devices, and I saw a mention up-thread of upgrade promos. Where can I find out about the upgrade promos? (Something that would discount the price of an upgrade device by at least the amount I just spent last night to activate my BYOD Galaxy S2 would be great.)

Sorry about the dumb noob questions! Feel free to (gently) direct me to the right spots where the answers I'm looking for probably are.

I think your S2 should still work, but only at 3G speeds for data. It's only 4G Wimax only devices that will cease to work. Also, there are a number of threads on this forum that will link you to the LTE device promos.

Right after I got home for lunch I saw the promos/offers section of the FP Forum. Looks like my current best bets for a cheap 4G LTE device are either an LG Volt @$39.99 (at least it's white, so I could tell it apart from the Boost Mobile LG Volt (bought used w/clean ESN from eBay) I'm using on RingPlus) or a Kyocera Hydro Icon @$34.99. It also looks like new promos appear on a regular basis, so the promos thread is well worth rechecking.

Do a little research before you decide. As for the Icon, there is currently an issue with certain Google apps crashing on it, which, depending on whether or not you actually use these apps, may or may not affect you. There is a long thread here detailing these issues and possible workarounds for some apps, at least. On the plus side, the Icon is both water and shock resistant, so dropping it in the bathtub should not kill it like it would most phones.

    @CatherineMcClarey

Agreed...I think it should still work over 3G although in my area 3G is rather slow. My kids had been without 4G for months as Sprint shut down my local wimax towers way ahead of time. They could still keep in touch fine using text, facebook messenger, and hangouts.

If we were the type to talk on the phone I could add premium voice.

I did decide to upgrade two of our phones.

We got one of each - LG Volt and Kyocera Hydro.

I like the Volt for it's longer battery life and the tv remote. 3000mAh.

I like the Kyocera for its shock and water resistance and wireless charging (powermat not qi). It has decent battery life even though it's only a 2000mAh battery. It lasts all day out and about.

Our Kyocera had all the google apps working fine when it came so I went into the play store and set updates to never. (So I have to do updates manually)

We just won't update any google apps until I know this thing is fixed.

So far that's working fine. We've had the phone for almost a week. Granted I can't guarentee it'll work forever...but so far so good.

Now if I could activate the Boost Mobile LG Volt on FP (after deactivating it from RingPlus) . . . . I have an even older smartphone (an LG Optimus S) I could use as a placeholder on RingPlus while working a sort of "triangle trade" device swap, assuming I wanted to keep the RingPlus account open. Or I could just try making a call on both the RingPlus phone & the FP phone, listen for which one seems to have the better sound quality, and then keep just one of the 2 accounts open.

I do appreciate S_MP's sharing his/her personal experience with the LG Volt vs. the Kyocera Hydro; thanks!

A third device I've had my eye on for a while (via viewing oodles of YouTube smartphone reviews) is the Motorola Moto E, which sounds like it would have the most up-to-date version of Android (assuming it's the current-gen Moto E), although the camera would have a lower resolution (something to consider, since I use my smartphone camera a lot for eBay and Ravelry photos). Looks like it was on special earlier in October, but not now (although the undiscounted $49.95 for a refurb still wouldn't be that bad, compared to the price of a new Moto E).

Moto E is $39.99 periodically (not right now) at Best Buy brand new. Also some like huawei-union:

For these phones, check ESN in all 3 of FreedomPop, RingPlus, and Ting and then do so again a second time. This sounds odd, but will free up the ESN for activation on FreedomPop in many cases.
  • CatherineMcClareyCatherineMcClarey FreedomPop Newbie Posts: 12
The only problem with the Moto E (Sprint pre-paid, I think) at Best Buy is that they're not in-stock at all Best Buy stores (at least they aren't at the 2 Best Buy stores I get to most often -- usually on weekends only, as they're about 35-50 miles away each), and I hesitate to order a Sprint PP Moto E from the Best Buy website, as one couldn't check the ESN before purchasing the item.

Interesting suggestion on a possible way to free up the ESN on a no-contract phone purchased from Best Buy, though! I will take a look at the link for the VM Huawei Union phone and look for reviews, as I'm not at all familiar with that device.
