Bought 8gb LG Volt phones and they only have 4gb

I bought both phones through Woot. I purchased one, like it a lot, so purchased another. It was only when the second did not recognize an SD card that I noticed both only have 4GB of memory. Woot's add clearly stated 8gb. What gives with FP? I really want to try their service, but I've already had to return a Kyocera Hydro because you could not hear anything and now this! On with crappy customer service once again... http://electronics.woot.com/offers/freedompop-phone-lg-volt-3

    LG specs. say 8 GB.

But I guess half of it is used by bloatware.

My Volt only showed 3.5 GB free when I first turned it on. Not a woot, just direct from FP. Somewhere in settings I did see phone memory was 8GB total.

The storage space is 8GB yes, but only about 4GB is available for the user. The other 4GB is taken up by android, the bootloader, and carrier bloatware. This is standard for all phones

Common issues related to FreedomPop Devices:

If you are having trouble with the FreedomPop messaging app registering, always try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. If that doesn't work download push notification fixer (no root) from the play store. make sure both intervals are set to 5 minutes and click apply.

    I don't work for FreedomPop

I hung onto a Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider (full slideout horizontal qwerty) and then the FreedomPop Optimus F3, both for a long time despite their tiny memory, by rooting, using link2sd and setting up an ext partition on a large external microSD card. It forces your phone to pretend it has huge internal storage. It worked well, but if anything goes wrong with the SD card you have to rebuild the whole thing, so when my FP Optimus F3 got dropped in a puddle and was never quite the same after that, I upgraded to the Volt thinking I would be able to just pop in a big microSD card and have all the space I'd ever need for my podcasts and audiobooks without having to jerry-rig system fakeouts. But I'm about to do the same thing with this one.

I added a standard (non-partitioned) 32gb card to the Volt that ended up being basically useless. Applications like ebook/audiobook readers and music apps never used my external storage card for downloads; the only application that would use my 32gb card was the camera. I could never place files on my 32gb card by using the wifi share feature, and MediaSync NEVER worked for me, so the only way I could ever get anything onto that card was to open the phone up and move it to my laptop for copying. The only handsfree stuff I can do is copying files over bluetooth.

So right now I'm setting up the whole Link2sd/ext partition deal and preparing to factory reset my phone so I can actually use this thing.

I really loved the FreedomPop Optimus F3. Once I set up Link2sd It was never a second of trouble. But the Volt has been a PITA from the get-go. It's laggy, missing features (where did tethering go?), supplied features sometimes don't work or don't work well (mediasync, bluetooth spotty, call quality), and the whole storage thing is a mess. If it weren't so much trouble to just swap a phone with FreedomPop I would have returned it already.
