Sending Text and Making Calls

We just got our new service with FreedomPop and are a little confused how it is working. The first phone we have is an iPhone 5 and it seems as though text messages ONLY work through the Freedom Pop app. The phone number tied to the phone is a complete different number. Friends with iphones receive texts through imessage but they come from the wrong number.

Is the Freedom pop service only used through the app? It seems silly since many benefits of a smart phone would not be possible to use.

My questions are:

1 - Can we use the native phone and message app on the phones?
2 - If not, will sending messages and calls through the app use data as a VOIP?

We also ordered the galaxy 3 but have not received it yet so if it is different on other phones also.

    1. No
    2. Data used for calls and text messages should be reimbursed, so that your data balance is not affected by them. You should see this in your account under data usage details.
