GLOBAL GSM SIM not working in LG G4(US991) ===$30 reward=== =case solved=

edited September 2016 in Global SIM Card #1
I have an unlocked LG G4(US991). It is working GSM/CDMA.
I got FreedomPop global GSM sim, and set up the APN as instructed.
However, it is not working in my phone.
It keeps saying 'no internet connection'.
I tried the sim card in another unlocked AT&T phone, and it is working okay.
I searched internet to get any helpful information in regards this matter, but I couldn't find any.
I reached FreedomPop Tech Support, but they weren't very helpful either.
Any helpful suggestions?
If anyone can solve this issue, I am willing to pay $30 via paypal.

Make sure in your settings that CDMA is turned off. Then set up APN settings, and use the FreedomPop Messaging app through WiFi. It will let you know if your SIM card needs to be activated.
I usually respond within 24 hours. If you need help, feel free to ask.

    Thanks JJFreedom for the suggestion.
Under network mode, my phone has 4 options
    1. Global
    2. LTE/CDMA
    3. GSM/UMTS
    4. CDMA only
I selected GSM/UMTS to make the sim work, but it doesn't help.
    Any other suggestion?
The sim is properly activated, and it is working okay in other phones when I tried.
Only my phones doesn't work with it...
I am also wondering if I can use this phone as BYOD device in Freedompop.
    Thanks..

did you try to turn on roaming? or try to manually select network and choose at&t or tmobile
  • Eunhye KimEunhye Kim Posts: 26FreedomPop Newbie
    Yes, I did...
I turned on roaming, and manually selected AT&T or Tmobile...
    However, it still doesn't work...
    Any other suggestion?

If I select AT&T or Tmobile, it says 'registered', but still doesn't have access to the internet...

did you turn mobile data on?
and when you set the APN, is it correctly selected with the dot on the right?

    @Eunhye Kim
Please verify you have done all of the following...
    • Set phone from global to >> GSM/UMTS
    • Set APN to freedompop.foggmobile.com
    • Turned ON Data Roaming
    • Instead of manually connecting to AT&T/T-Mobile, select automatic
    • Go to Data Usage and make sure Mobile Data is switched ON
    • If all the above didn't work, turn on WiFi and open the FreedomPop Messaging app, and see if it needs you to activate your phone
I usually respond within 24 hours. If you need help, feel free to ask.

I tried 'automatic select' as well.
If I click that, it says 'registered on network', but still doesn't have internet connection.
I open Freedompop Messaging App with WiFi connected, it works okay.
It opens my account, and shows all the plans, and other information correctly.
It is activated properly, I think.
When I tried this sim card in my friend's unlocked phone, it was working okay on the phone.
It doesn't work on my phone... However, my phone is working okay in T-mobile network and AT&T network with their own sim cards.
    Any other suggestions?

    And I have a question.
I have three options under 'network submode'

    1.Legacy 3GPP multi
    2.GSM/GPRS/EDGE only
    3.UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ only

I selected #1, but do I need to change this mode?

are you sure on APN the dot on the right is selected?

and I use umts/hspa/hspa+ only, since that is exactly what Freedompop uses, try that

Try #3, those are the only towers the SIM will use.

    dear boonies :

Are you using LG G4 US991 as well?
  • Eunhye KimEunhye Kim Posts: 26FreedomPop Newbie
    I tried umts/hspa/hspa+ , but it doesn't work...
and I selected Freedompop APN with dot on the right....

when I inserted the sim in my friend's att phone, it created three.co.uk APN automatically..
However it didn't create three APN on my phone...
I was wondered if that is affecting the connectivity.. so I created one manually, and copied the settings..
And I selected freedompop APN.. but it doesn't still work....
    any other helpful suggestions?

This seems like your phone isn't actually unlocked, this may be why it doesn't recognize the FreedomPop as an actual SIM.

I had a similar issue this morning with my GSM unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4. Try this fix. If it works please post so that everyone else knows.

Go to phone settings, select Mobile networks, then Network operators, select Default setup, select Manual (Your phone will now look for network providers). Select AT&T. Your phone should now register. If it doesn't go thru the same steps and select T-Mobile.

    Thanks...
I tried both AT&T and T-Mobile, but it doesn't work...
It says it is registered on the networks, but it doesn't have access to the internet..
My phone is working okay with AT&T and T-Mobile sim cards, but I don't know why.. this sim doesn't work on my phone...
