Sprint iPad to GSM SIM

commutebybikecommutebybike Posts: 3FreedomPop Newbie
I currently have a Sprint iPad Mini (1st Gen) with Freedompop. Because of the coverage in my area, the GSM plan would work better. I have read that all iPads are factory set to be unlocked, so I'm wondering if it's possible to use this iPad with a Freedompop Global SIM. If I inserted a global SIM, would it know to connect to At&t/ T-mobile, or would it still try to connect to Sprint?
