Can I use a Voice/Data Global SIM in a data-only device?

All the promotional deals for these Global SIM cards (at least these days) are with the voice/data plan. But I want to use it in a T-Mobile HSPA+ GSM hotspot device, and also an Apple iPad for AT&T. Doesn't seem like that should be a problem, since FreedomPop service is really just "data-only" as far as cellular is concerned. I just wouldn't bother getting a phone number and can't use the minutes/texts allocated, and would be stuck with the voice/data pricing (are the data-only plans any better?).

Still I wonder if this would somehow be a problem for FreedomPop? In any case, can the voice/data plan be changed to data-only plan and vice versa if I move the SIM between phone and hotspot?

First both GSM devices have to be unlocked, don't think hotspots can be unlocked.
Then you have to get a phone# from FP.
Get the FP messaging app, again hotspot can't, maybe you can get firmware.
Go into iPad settings and change the cellular setting to freedompop.foggmobile.com, again I don't think you can do this step on your hotspot.

Your iPad can be paired to a phone, dial out on tablet, and you should get data and text on the tablet screen.
Maybe you can install the sim in the T-Mobile HSPA+ GSM hotspot device without any problems, but if you can tether on the iPad and don't mind carrying it around, you only need the pad.

And the data plans are more.
You can get a FP hotspot for $19.99, https://www.freedompop.com/offer/803sbanner?utm_oscampaign=FP_US_WebDesktop_Sub_Hotspot&utm_osplacement=HomePage_Mid-Lft_330x249_Open&utm_oscreative=USWLS_803sbanner_803S19HolidaySale

Here is link to current selling data only SIM. Plan pricing is $3-$5 less. No rhyme or reason why one is $3 and another is $5 less. It just is. The two FREE levels are the same amount 200 MB

data ONLY SIM $1.99 at present time.
Works with Freedompop’s global plans. Uses Three in Europe and Tmobile/At&t in United States
Note: Comes with 1gb data plan trial and premier trial. Free Shipping

I had the same question, cparke. Actually I am looking at doing the same thing for an old iPhone 3GS, and see you already did it. I tried it before with a data-only SIM and a talk/text/data SIM, but couldn't get tot he APN settings (the original AT&T provider had that, it seems like). Did you run into that? I'm considering a tool like unlockit.co.nz (unlocks APN settings on an unlocked phone like mine), and was wondering if such a path would work or mess up the phone.

Yes, you need to use the unlockit website to generate and install the profile, FP's website tools doesn't work right in that old browser!
