I have a hand me down Samsung S5 having been on Verizon system, Verizon claimed it to be unlocked. Can Freedom provide a sim card that will allow me to use the S5 on my present primary freedom pop account?

I have a Boost Moto-E that I bought before 04/17/2016 and activated on Ring Plus. If I close my Ring Plus account, can I activate it on FreecomPop? Please let me know. Thanks.

All 4 of you are likely to have success on one or or both networks. @cfli1688c1 your iPhone 5s should be workable in either network. Since you have success with Sprint SIM card on ring+, it should work the same on FreedomPop if all the financials, not stolen, yadda yadda all pass. The 5s models all have some GSM support and can work the Global SIM pretty good.

I didn't pay attention to any of the FreedomPop documentation about which phones are supported for the BYOD program and just went ahead and bought the LTE SIM Kit - 3-in-1 - Voice/Data Bundle for my unlocked Sony Xperia Compact.

FYI, it does work with a couple of caveats. I'm pretty sure it will only work on the 4G LTE bandwidths. This is no problem for me living in an urban area with good 4G LTE coverage.

It looks like all I needed is the Messaging App. When I installed the MyFreedomPop app bad things began to happen. I had to uninstall both apps, then reinstall just the Messaging app and everything's okey dokey now. Texting and calling work pretty flawlessly.

Finally, with my phone registered with FreedomPop I apparently can't sign up for any plan except for the Basic LTE 200 plan. Under "Available Plans" it's all blank. I do apparently have access to the various services.

I am pleasantly surprised at the outcome of all of this, and cautiously optimistic.

I have a Galaxy S7 (unlocked). It's currently on MetroPCS. I'm guessing it won't work with FreedomPop? Because I'm definitely not going to buy a whole new phone when this one cost over $500...

    Try this site: https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/freedompop-united-states

I don't know why Freedompop doesn't make it easier to figure out which foreign phones work on their network. All we need to know are the network specs.

The answer would be no, the phone listed has to be approved by Freedompop even though it uses the same frequency.

It's not on the list yet which is somewhat annoying. Freedompop needs to add more phones to their list of approved phones.

Most of the links on this page are dead ends. I want to know if a GSM phone will work as BYOD. So difficult to get get any timely information on this site.

@sadico As long as the phone is unlocked, it should work with the LTE GSM SIM. As far as a comprehensive list on the GSM side, that is next to impossible because of the shear amount of phones supported. The key is it needs to support the 3G HSPA (in other words WCDMA or UTMS) frequencies of 850 and 1900. The LTE Bands supported are 2/4/5/17 (if 12 is supported, it may work on 17)/29/and 30. Band 30 is the best to me. GSM frequencies are irrelevant as 2G has been discontinued by AT&T.

Is the Moto G4 Play supported? I was thinking of getting one from Amazon, and I know it's sprint compatible. Is there anything special that would need to be done to get it registered to FreedomPop's CDMA service? Thanks.

For Sprint on Ebay, there is a category called: Sprint PostPay that doesn't seem to work..so the easiest way to find one on Ebay is to search to Ting or Boost instead of Sprint. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@atldjm - For FreedomPop CDMA, Sprint, Ting, and Boost phones should work. You will just need to confirm that the device has been used on that network long enough and that the previous carrier has "Released" the device from their network.

Will the LG Stylo 2 work on FreedomPop???
  • ITPMITPM Posts: 2FreedomPop Newbie
@JJFreedom : The link to confirm whether a devices IMEI number is compatible on Freedompop's network throws an error message when you type in the IMEI number, and provides a 1-800 number to call. The 1-800 number was useless, just a sales guy trying to get me to give a credit card number. Does an unlocked Verizon LG VK810 4G tablet work on Freedompop's network, or are only Sprint devices compatible with Freedompop? Please note that I reside in the Dallas, TX commuting area.

@JJFreedom - will a verizon LG VK810 4G tablet work on FreedomPop's network (looking at a data plan only)? Note that I reside in the Dallas, TX commuting area. When I attempted to use the link above to confirm the IMEI number would work on the network, the site threw an error and directed me to call a 1-800 number. That number was useless, just a sales guy trying to get me to give him a credit card number. Any advice would be appreciated.

Will the LG Stylo 2 work on FreedomPop???

@Yvette Florence - The LG Stylo 2 will only work on FreedomPop's network if it has been completely released from the previous provider. This is something they have to do prior to closing the account with them. It seems you actually will have two options if they do it:
    1. GSM: If they can unlock the device for you, you will be able to purchase a FreedomPop GSM SIM card, and use GSM services. (GSM LTE service runs off AT&T's towers)
    2. CDMA: If they can release the device, you should be able to use it with FreedomPop's CDMA service (run's off Sprint's towers)
I usually respond within 24 hours. If you need help, feel free to ask.

@ITPM - The ID checker is actually only for CDMA devices, and not to be used if you have a GSM device. What this means is that the checker only looks at MEID numbers (for the Sprint-run service), and not IMEI numbers.

If you are referring to a GSM device, you will not need to go through this step. All you will need to do is verify your device is unlocked, and if so, a FreedomPop GSM Sim should work great!

Most Verizon devices come pre-unlocked; however, no one besides Verizon can guarantee that a Verizon product is unlocked. If your tablet is unlocked, then you should be good to go.
Additionally you will need to check this:
Most devices can only work on certain towers, because they are designed to do so by the manufacturer/carrier. It seems your tablet's specifications state that it can only run on "LTE Bands 4 and 13." This means you will only be able to use the LTE SIM, and not the global one. Also, you may not experience full coverage because FreedomPop's LTE GSM network uses LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, and 17. Your device would only be compatible with one of those tower types, so you may not receive complete coverage.
I usually respond within 24 hours. If you need help, feel free to ask.
