A tip that would have saved me from a lot of grief this morning

So I have 2-factor authentication on my Google account. That means I'm locked out this morning because I can't receive text messages.

I spent two hours on the investigation, until I randomly clicked my billing tab and got a big red bar saying my account was suspended because of a billing issue. Looking at the billing page it looks like I accidently turned on visual voicemail a few months ago. I vaguely remember the incident, and while it wasn't a charge I intended to inccur, I don't feel the need to dispute it either.

What I do take issue with is that I recieved NO NOTIFICATION that my phone was about to be shut off. Data still works, and I don't use my phone very much, so the only thing that told me there was a problem was this suddenly not getting my codes this morning (they worked fine last night). It's not that difficult to set up a script that will email or text people who owe you money to let them know their phone is about to be shut off.
