For my mom

So I want to be able to set up security cameras in and around my mom's home. She's 96 and does not use anything related to internet service. Will freedompop work for me to just monitor security cameras from my iPhone?

Something like the Netgear 6100D gateway , along with some cheap IP cameras should work for this. The 6100D seems to be pretty stable, once setup & should recover without any user intervention after power outages. Since it has both Ethernet ports & WiFi, both wired & wireless IP cameras can be used with it.

Since you'd be viewing the IP camera streams over the WAN, you may need to setup port forwarding to specific IP cameras, to allow them all to be viewed remotely. You should ensure that the cameras have password authentication to ensure that only you have access.

The thing to watch out for will be data usage - extended viewing of a camera stream could use up your data allocation, depending on video quality. The 6100D also uses an amount of data itself. The basic 500Mb free plan might be marginal, so you should try to maintain at least 10 Freedom Friends to boost your data allocation by an extra 500Mb, or look at one of the paid data plans.
