Is the FreedomPop Global SIM still working in Europe or not?

A user reported on another site that their Global SIM wasn't working (cell service, but no data connection) in France despite having an active account, a good 3G signal, having double checked APN settings and trying multiple devices. Upon returning to the US, data worked fine.

FreedomPop has offered little guidance about the future of the Global SIM service. As a customer who was planning on using it in Europe, it would be nice to know in advance whether the service is actually going to work when I get there, or whether I need to make other arrangements.

The link you provided says nothing about a (new) $4.99 fee.

Correct, the link was provided for the APN information as well as the countries outside US you can use the Global sim with, if you already own one.

Because global sims have been discontinued, the information on the article will ONLY apply if you have already purchased this SIM card.

The charge belongs to a recent change in service providers. Global sims customers were advised to keep their FREE plan and get 5x faster speeds by upgrading their account to a 4G LTE SIM, via email, earlier this year.

Via this email, they were indicated about choosing to continue using their Global SIM, for a $4.99 charge per month unless they decide to change plans, upgrade to LTE or cancel service.

@AlejandraG - can a current Global SIM user deactivate the Global 200 plan (and stop using the SIM for the time being), but reactivate that same plan later, when required?

Unfortunately deactivating this plan will trigger to cancel the global sim account because having an active global sim account, is now a paid service. In other words, global sims no longer offer free plans.

Perhaps your marketing/product team could consider introducing a methodology to allow temporary suspension/reactivation of the Global 200 plan? This would allow the Globals to continue to be an economical option for occasional travelers, while providing FP with an income stream when used, that would be otherwise be lost through upgrade/cancellation.
