iPhone SE out of stock - which should I buy to use with FP?

I am not a FreedomPop customer yet. I want to get an iPhone SE and use it with FreedomPop. Is it better to buy a Sprint-locked device and BYOD, or an unlocked device and get a SIM card?

Hi! The service is still VOIP as a CDMA device or a GSM sim card but we can help you check on coverage on your area to determine which one would get a better reception. Can you please confirm the zip code to check on this?
