Not working properly... Signal is very weak and Messaging app keeps crashing

I have two issues with the phone.
1. My MiFi and photon are working very well with full signal bar at my home location, but not the phone. The signal is very very weak. I assume they all using the same signal source, so could this be an antenna issue with the phone?
2. When I open Messaging app, it shows "Locating user for device", " register user...." and then I'll see the green check mark with my phone number. But it's doing these steps over and over again. Sometimes I can compose a message but fail to make calls; sometimes it never stops doing the above steps no matter in messaging app or making calls.
I've tried to restore to factory settings, updates... all the things I could try for several times....with no luck.
I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue...

    go into the play store and try to uninstall and re-install...if it don't allow this...try to uninstall updates and see if this does anything to the app?

    you might try this first..-find settings....

    settings>>>>apps or application management......find the messaging app

    Force Stop and than clear cache.....go back and log in...

    @ruby J For your signal question, the Photon and MiFi 4082 both are WiMAX but the LG Viper is LTE. If signal is different, this is probably why.
